Obituary

Alice Louise (Mathes) Harvey, 86, of Memphis, Missouri, passed away August 7, 2017, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis.

She was born October 7, 1930, in Scotland County to Okla Lee and Bessie (Walker) Mathes.

She married Leland H. Harvey on September 25, 1949, at the United Methodist Church in Memphis and to this union three children were born.

Alice and Leland lived all of their forty-five years of married life on their farm near Arbela, Missouri, until Leland's death on December 17, 1994. She was a hard worker and enjoyed farming their land with her husband and working with Leland's parents and brother, Joe Junior, on the family farm. Alice moved to Memphis in January, 1995.

Alice was a member of the Arbela Methodist Church; she was a member of the Church Ladies Group where she served as treasurer for many years. She enjoyed quilting and had a passion for writing letters to relatives and friends; especially when sending holiday greeting cards.  Alice realized her greatest pleasure when she could spend time with her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left to honor her memory are her two sons: Don Harvey and his wife, Linda, of Arbela; Darrell Harvey and his wife, Jo Beth, and a daughter, Beverly Shelley and her husband, Greg, both of Memphis; seven grandchildren:  Melissa Hamm and her husband, Rob; Mikel Harvey, Trisha Harvey, Brian Harvey and his wife, Ashley, Josh Shelley, Kyle Shelley, Jared Shelley and his wife, Kaela and seven great grandchildren:  Emma, Ryan, Landon and Brooks Harvey; Hilary and Lucas Hamm and Kaedee Shelley.  Also surviving is a sister, Lela Trueblood, many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leland; four brothers: Henry Lee Mathes, Harold Mathes, Raymond Mathes, Dale Mathes and three sisters: Evaun Arnold, Cleo Woods and Pauline Hohstadt.
