Obituary

Betty Rae Bondurant, 88, of Memphis, Missouri, passed away October 1, 2014, at the Scotland County Hospital. She was born June 22, 1926, in Cantril, Iowa to Ray and Bertha (Work) Swank. Betty and her family moved to Memphis in 1936 from Moberly, Missouri. She was a member of the 1944 graduating class from Memphis High School. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Donald DuWayne Bondurant, on October 16, 1946 and to this union one son, Brent Delayne Bondurant, was born in 1963. Betty worked at the Ben Franklin store in Memphis during high school. She taught rural school at Edinburg for three years, was a secretary for Gerth and Basket for twenty-seven years and worked part-time at Memphis Funeral Home before fully retiring. She was a member of the Memphis United Methodist Church and the local Red Hat's group. Betty enjoyed knitting, cooking, canning vegetables, attending sporting events and especially those of her son and grandchildren and derived much pleasure visiting with friends and neighbors. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, DuWayne, in August, 2001, her parents, a brother, Rex Swank, a sister, LaVon Roberts and two nieces: Patty Jennings and Bonnie Walkup. She is survived by her son, Brent, and his wife, Dana, of Memphis, Missouri; three grandchildren: DeLayna Bondurant of Belleville, Illinois; Brock Bondurant of Columbia, Missouri and Madie Bondurant of Memphis, Missouri. Also surviving are a niece, Glena Lou Sims and her husband, Edwin, of Paris, Missouri; several great and great-great nieces and nephews good friends and her roommate, Arlene Stone.
