Christine H. Botts 88 of Norwalk Iowa and formerly of Bloomfield Iowa passed away October 26 2011 at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk.She was born in Davis County Iowa on April 14 1923 to Forrest David and Ruth Widmer Hartzler.She grew up on a farm southwest of Pulaski Iowa and attended Fairview Country School in Davis County Iowa. She was a graduate of Pulaski High School Class of 1941.She married Sam Botts Jr. September 27 1941 in Kirksville Missouri and to this union two children were born.While her husband was stationed in Alaska for three years during World War II Christine worked in Des Moines and Ottumwa Iowa. She and her husband farmed near Savannah Iowa in Davis County for twenty years and moved to Bloomfield in 1969. Chris was a receptionist and secretary for the Davis County Soil Conservation Service for twenty-three years. She retired in 1986.She was a member of the Pulaski Mennonite Church and later became a member of the Savannah Christian Church. In 1970 Chris and Sam changed their membership to the Bloomfield Christian Church where she remained a member until her death. Chris sang in the church choir played the piano and organ and was a member of C.W.F. having served as president for two years. She served as a church elder for eighteen years retiring in 2004. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter B Chautauqua Club and served as 4-H leader for the Wyacondah Workers 4-H Club when her daughter was a member. She enjoyed making stuffed animals needlework quilting and playing the piano. She was a volunteer for the Iowa Welcome Center serving as president for seven years volunteered as a Pink Lady for the Davis County Hospital Auxiliary and quilted with the Bloomfield Christian Church ladies for many years. She was especially proud of a needle point piece she designed and made of the Davis County Courthouse that now is on permanent display in the courthouse. Christines greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed saving her change to give to her three younger great granddaughters Koleen Morgan and Charlie. She proudly nominated her grandson Brent to Governor Terry Branstad when at age twelve he performed the Heimlich maneuver on his mother Mary Ann saving her life. Brent was later honored at the Iowa State Fair for this accomplishment. She also loved to tell people that both her granddaughters Leslie and Angela were valedictorian of their respective high school classes just as she was in 1941. She was diligent in attempting to attend all the special events in her children and grandchildrens lives expressing her pride in each of them. Photos were always taken of these events to show off to the breakfast bunch quilters and at her club meetings.Left to honor Christines memory is a son Dt. James S. Botts and his wife Georgia of Harlingen Texas her daughter Mary Ann Good and her husband Rodney of Cumming Iowa one grandson Brent Good and his wife Brenda of Eddyville Iowa two granddaughters: Leslie Mineart of Earlham Iowa and Dr. Angela Catic and her husband Dr. Andre Catic of Brookline Massachusetts three great granddaughters: Koleen Good Morgan Mineart Charlie Mineart and two step great grandsons: James Wilbourne of Oskaloosa Iowa and Joel Wilbourne of Eddyville Iowa. Also surviving are three sisters: Hazel Fry and her husband Don of Antioch California Ellen Lowe of Batavia Illinois Gertrude Saylor and her husband John of Mt. Pine Arkansas and many other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents her husband a brother John Hartzler and two sisters: Frances Reno and Florence Lowenberg.A visitation with the family present to greet relatives and friends will be held Monday October 31 2011 from 10 A.M. until noon at the Bloomfield Christian Church in Bloomfield Iowa. P.E.O. services will be held at the beginning of the visitation. Funeral services will be held on Monday October 31 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at the church with Pastor Jack Knox officiating. Music will be provided by Karen Spargur organist and Wayne Van Mersbergen vocalist. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bloomfield. Casket bearers will be Jack Henderson Max Leyda Richard Long Gary McConnell Doran Pence and Butch Priester. Honorary bearers will be the Breakfast Bunch and the Bloomfield Christian Church quilters. In lieu of flowers a memorial may be made to the Bloomfield Christian Church and may be left at the church or mailed to Memphis Funeral Home 378 South Market Street Memphis Missouri 63555.
