Obituary

Donald Jack "Skip" Shannan, 77, of Memphis, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at his residence in Memphis, Missouri.

Skip was born on January 12, 1947, in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Jack Delton and Helen Arline Carruthers Shannan.

On May 14, 1966, at the Christian Church in Memphis, Missouri, Skip married Wanda Joan Shelley, and to this union a son was born.

Skip attended the Van Buren High School in Keosauqua, Iowa graduating in the Class of 1965.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Upon returning to Memphis, he worked for the Davidson DX Service Station before starting his career with the City of Memphis Maintenance Department.

His love for music led him to join a band "The Black Widow Band" playing bass guitar and singing for more than 15 years, in the 80's. He enjoyed watching Western's, was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved to be outside mowing.

Skip is survived by his son Robert Paul "Rob" Shannan of Memphis, Missouri and his significant other, Stephanie Hager; two grandchildren, Ben and his wife, Courtney Shannan of Memphis, Missouri and Claire Shannan and her fiancé Will Minear of Ashland, Missouri; a great grandson and great granddaughter, Jackson Paul and Ella Michele; sisters, Rita Hughes and husband Allen of Keosauqua, Iowa; Kitty Meek and husband Ike of Rome, Iowa; Ann Skaggs of Birmingham, Iowa; and Jenny Smith and husband Roy of Farmington, Iowa; special friends, Lynn Monroe and Dannette Clatt; and special neighbors, Randy and Thelma Norton and Pat and Dianne  Clifford; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Wanda Shannan; and his parents; Jack and Arline Shannan.

A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2024, at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, Missouri with the family receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday.

Interment at a later date will be in the Richland Cemetery at Hitt, Missouri.

An expression of sympathy in memory of Skip Shannan may be left to Richland Cemetery. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Memphis Funeral Home 378 S. Market Street, Memphis, Missouri 63555.
