Donna Burrus Doty passed away at Capital Regional Hospital in Jefferson City Missouri on Sunday afternoon March 18 2012Donna Fern Burrus was born October 3 1920 in Scotland County Missouri to Myrtle Roberts Burrus and William Don Burrus.She married Oral F. Parrish on September 14 1938. To this union was born one daughter Wanda Fern Parrish. After they met at Greensburg Christian Church Donna married Glen E. Doty on December 23 1951 followed by the births of two daughters Deborah Louise Doty and Glenna Sue Doty who were raised on the farm in Scotland County Missouri.Donnas education includes a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree in English Literature from MSTC Truman State University Her twenty-eight year teaching career began with thirteen years in rural schools in northeast Missouri and at Memphis High School followed by fifteen years in Fort Myers Florida at Lee Junior High Dunbar High and Riverdale High Schools. She was voted Teacher of the Year during her final year of service in 1976.In retirement after moving back to Scotland County Donna enjoyed gardening making scrapbooks reading playing checkers teaching a weekly Sunday School class and competing in the annual Bible Super Bowl at the First Christian Church in Memphis.She is preceded in death by her parents and by siblings Irma McRobert Virginia Kirkpatrick Agnes Robinson Iris Ott Ina June Hall Richard Burrus and Velna Burrus by her husbands Oral F. Parrish and Glen E. Doty and by her stepdaughter Helen Doty.Donna is survived by daughters Wanda Parrish Lilly Deborah Doty Pollard and Glenna Sue Doty four grandchildren ten great grandchildren three step grandchildren seven step great grandchildren seven great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.The love of her family was her great joy and her greatest comfort was her faith as a member of the First Christian Church of Memphis.Visitation will open after 11 A.M. on Thursday March 22nd at Memphis Funeral Home with the family present to greet relatives and friends from 6 until 8 P.M.Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday March 23rd at the funeral home with Brother Larry Smith officiating and Christy Maier vocalist. Burial will follow in Greensburg Cemetery in rural Knox County Missouri.
