Donald James “Donnie” Campbell, 79, of Edina and Knox City, Missouri, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Missouri.

Donnie was born January 3, 1935, near Knox City, Missouri, the son of Raymond E. and Rosemary Miller Campbell.

Donnie attended Center Ridge Rural School near Knox City and graduated from LaBelle High School in the Class of 1952. After serving his country in the United States Army, he returned home to farm. He was engaged in farming nearly all of his life, first with his dad and then on a farm he purchased that had been in his family for years.  After retiring from farming, he worked for the Knox County Water District.

Donnie was a member of the Knox City American Legion Post and had many interests during his lifetime, he took flying lessons, was a voracious reader, loved animals and was an avid coin collector.

Surviving are two children, Deanna McWhirter (and husband Larry) of Pacific, Missouri; and Derin Campbell of Mexico, Missouri; a granddaughter, Alexandria Campbell McWhirter of Pacific, Missouri; three sisters, Mary Lillian Ellis of Macon, Missouri; Cheryl Feldman of St. Charles, Missouri and Carol Meier of Des Moines, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, Donnie was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Campbell.

Military Graveside Honors will be held Monday, June 30, 2014, at 12:30 p.m. at the Bee Ridge Cemetery southeast of Edina, Missouri.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 noon Monday at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Pastor Sam Smith will officiate and Casket Bearers will be Larry McWhirter, Clayton Rice, Dan Devlin, John Clauson Miller, Steven Miller, Gary Klocke and Gary McKinzie along with Honorary Bearers, Bill Hayes, Mackey Johnson, Pudge Dodd and Louis Rubin.

An expression of sympathy in memory of Donnie Campbell may be left to the Bee Ridge Cemetery Association. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4 ^th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
