Douglas D. Robinson, of Arbela, passed on to be with his Lord, May 9, 2013, at the age of 84. Doug was born in Picayune, Mississippi, January 11, 1929. He grew up in rural southeast Iowa, where for most of his youth, he rode his horse to school. He graduated in 1946 at the top of his small class at Cantril High School. After graduation, he helped on his family's farm and served in the Army as a military policeman (MP) in Colorado. After that, he came home to spend his life as a farmer, rancher and factory worker, an outdoorsman and conservationist, and a loving husband, father and grandfather. In 1954, he married Edna Mae Garrison Forrester, who died of cancer in 1988. He married Maurine Hayden Brown in 1989. After retirement in 1991 from working off-the-farm at General Mills in Keokuk, Iowa, he continued to farm and raise beef cattle until a few years ago. Doug's faith was very important to him. He attended the Arbela United Methodist Church before transferring membership to the Memphis Christian Church where he was a very active member, serving as a deacon and elder. He also served as a board member for the Scotland County Care Center, where he lived during his last year. Doug loved the outdoors, and especially enjoyed hunting deer, elk and turkey. Other favorite pastimes were loading ammunition, playing cards and reading. He traveled widely in the U.S. and twice to Europe. Even during his last years of failing health, Doug appreciated life and his family. The last words he could speak were "Thank you," and "I love you." Survivors include Douglas' devoted wife, Maurine, Arbela; four children: Joe Forrester, Columbia, Missouri; Sue (John) Forrester Guio, De Kalb, Illinois; Ann Robinson (Charles DuCharme), Des Moines, Iowa; and Scott (Teresa) Robinson, Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren Mark Forrester, John Douglas Guio, Christopher Guio and Ethan Guio, Julia Robinson-Frantsvog, and Logan Robinson; nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; and step-children Dale (Jeanne) Brown, Jeannette (Dan) Kirby, E.J. Brown, Terry (Terri Rae) Brown, and Carol Davila; and step-grandchildren Cory Brown, Christopher Brown, Dannette Liles, Jodi Smith, Scott Kirby, Jim Brown, Annette Brown, Kimberly Weaver, Michael Byrn, Kellen Brown, Clint Brown, Ausha Crow, and Chanyel (Trey) Crow. Preceding Doug in death were his parents, Joseph Bence (J.B) and Thelma Shipley Robinson, his first wife Edna Mae, brother Ward Robinson, sister Iona Robinson Lathrop, and grandson Lars Frantsvog.
