Obituary

Opal Eilene Huckey Findley, 91, of Gorin, Missouri, entered into heaven, Friday, June 20, 2014 at 5:42 AM in her home in Gorin, Missouri. She was born the youngest of three children of Benjamin J. and Daisy Pearl Boyer Huckey on August 26, 1922, at Gorin, Missouri. Eilene attended Price School and graduated from Gorin High School with the class of 1941. She worked at Shaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, Iowa; then later at Midwest Biscuit Company and the Glove Factory in Burlington, Iowa, before she became and loved being a farmer's wife. Eilene was united in marriage to William Elmer Findley on February 21, 1943 in Gorin, Missouri by Reverend Arthur Huff. They resided in rural Gorin in the home built by her parents. To this union a daughter, Sherry Eilene, was born. Elmer preceded her in death in December of 1965. Eilene was very well known for her wonderful piano playing and beautiful handmade quilts and doilies which she loved giving away until the very end of her life. She loved her cats, gardening, cooking, playing cards and the marble game. She prided herself on taking meticulous care of her homestead. Eilene was a member of the Gorin Methodist Church for over 75 years, was the 2000 Gorin Fall Festival outstanding citizen, FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer and has been playing the piano at the Clark County Nursing Home every month for the past 40 years until April, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her parents, Ben and Pearl Huckey; a brother, Lloyd Huckey; a sister, Bernadine Pulliam and two nephews: Delbert Huckey and Carroll Pulliam. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry McMillen, of Lewistown, Missouri; a granddaughter, Brenna Leith and her husband, Jim, of Farmington, Missouri ; a great grandson, Skyler Leith, of Farmington, Missouri; two nieces: Roberta Dale of Gorin, Missouri and Charlene Garmon of Cairo, Missouri; very dear friends: Sandy Symons of Jacksonville, Illinois: Virginia Peterson of Gorin, Missouri: Dorothy Clark and Ivan and Anna Mae Good, all of Rutledge, Missouri.
