Doris "Elaine" Nagel, 97, of Edina, Missouri, formerly of Hedge City, Missouri, passed away Thursday morning, September 28, 2023 peacefully at home with her family by her side.
The daughter of Brode and Beulah Parsons, she was born August 21, 1926, near Epworth, Missouri.
She attended Applegate Rural School south of Plevna and graduated from the Edina High School in the Class of 1944.
She met her future husband, John Nagel, in high school and they married after graduation and moved to Bremerton, Washington to work in the Navy Shipyards during WWII. They then returned to Hedge City, Missouri raise their family and farmed for 52 years.
Elaine and John traveled to many countries and spent 23 winters in south Texas. After they retired, they moved to Edina, Missouri. Elaine enjoyed the farm life and visiting the Hedge City Store folks. She loved music, and was blessed to learn to play piano by ear like so many in her family.
Elaine is survived by a daughter, Dillis Nagel of Columbia, Missouri; a sister, Erma Jean Dennis of Quincy, Illinois; many nieces and nephews; along with a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 75 years, John Nagel on April 6, 2019; a daughter Linda Kay; a son John Dwayne; a brother, Waymond and his wife Dorothy Parsons; a sister, Louise and her husband Hershel Bachman; and a brother-in-law, Orlando Dennis.
Funeral Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 1, 2023, with the family receiving friends from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Edina, Missouri.
Interment will be in the Mt. Salem Cemetery, north of Plevna, Missouri.
Pastor Paul Harvey and Tresia Griffith will officiate and Casket Bearers will be Jason Doss, Randy Doss, Sam Rueter, Nick Miller, Jim Pinson, Jason Violette, Carl Adams and Dana Harder.
An expression of sympathy in memory of Elaine Nagel may be left to Hospice of Northeast Missouri or the Edina Christian Church. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
