Elsie Marie Mayer, 86, of Hurdland, Missouri passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Missouri.

Elsie was born on September 2, 1927 to Guy Addison and Minnie Belle Stephenson McCarty; the youngest of six children.

She graduated from the LaBelle High School in LaBelle, Missouri in the Class of 1944.

On November 5, 1946, Elsie married Robert Allen “Bob” Mayer and they made their home on a farm north of Hurdland, Missouri.

She was a member of the Hurdland Baptist Church in Hurdland, Missouri and the Kenwood Boosters Extension Club. Previous employers included the Edina Glove Factory in Edina Missouri and Show-Me Tours of Atlanta, Missouri.

Elsie enjoyed her life on the farm and being close to her family. She loved going on fishing trips with her husband Bob. She loved to cook and they would cook up a feast for friends and family to share. Elsie enjoyed all of the many trips she took with show-Me Tours but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Rita Stoner and her husband Delbert of Hurdland, Missouri, Max Mayer and his wife Gena of Hurdland, Missouri and Darla Lay and her husband Robert of LaBelle, Missouri; her grandchildren, Sarah Duran and her husband Joe of Jefferson City, Missouri, Sam Stoner and his wife Amy of Edina, Missouri, Leann and Laura Mayer both of Hurdland, Missouri, Luke and Erin Lay both of LaBelle, Missouri, Robyn Ginther and her husband Francis of Marion, Iowa,  and Ashley Lay of Kirksville, Missouri; her great grandchildren, Riley Stoner of Edina, Missouri, Sadie Shores and Gabe Duran of Jefferson City, Missouri, Kaeden, Marlowe and Ossie Ginther of Marion, Iowa, Brandi Howerton of Ewing, Missouri and Zach Howerton of Hurdland, Missouri; a brother Leonard “Red” McCarty of Hurdland, Missouri; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and  a host of friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Guy and Minnie McCarty; her husband Robert Allen “Bob” Mayer in  1989; an infant daughter, Mary Ann Mayer in 1957; a son Robert Wayne Mayer in 2005; and four brothers, Leland McCarty, Milton McCarty, Ivan McCarty, and Clarence “Cotton” McCarty.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 2, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Edina, Missouri.

Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hurdland, Missouri.

Officiating will be Dennis Mayer and Paul Milliken. Music will be provided by Gary Fagan and Carol Hayes. Casket Bearers will be Tom Gibbons, Larry Sykes, Rex Lingenfelter, Danny Gibbons, Eddie Hicks, Gary Clair, Mark Gibbons, and Stanley Bowen. Honorary Bearers will be Lawrence Dixson, Eveline Sykes, Larry and Betty Paisley, Dorothy Gibbons, Leroy Cardwell, Helen Delaney and Robert and Margaret Lingenfelter.
