Obituary

George D. Combs, 92, of Sacramento, California, died Friday, January 8, 2016, at the home of his son in Sacramento.

He was born December 18, 1923, to Wilbur Vance and May D. Dunlap Combs at Fredericktown, Missouri.

George was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. He survived D-Day, the Battle of Hurtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge.

He married Margaret Lucille McIntosh, October 3, 1943, at St. Louis, Missouri and to this union two sons were born. Margaret preceded him in death, July 20, 2001.

George and Margaret relocated to Sacramento, California in 1960. He worked as a mechanic for Kilpatrick's Bakery for over thirty years. He enjoyed camping in the Santa Cruz Mountains and loved the beach. George realized his greatest joy when spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons: David G. Combs and his wife, Bonnie, of Sacramento, California and Steven R. Combs and his wife, Renee, of Penn Valley, California; five grandchildren: Jeffrey Harris and Jennifer Tudor, both of Sacramento, California; Josh Combs and his wife, Carmella, of San Jose, California; Daniel Combs and Rachal Rougier and her husband, Dardo, all of Penn Valley, California and five great grandchildren: Tyler Tudor, Chrislee Tudor, Kaely Combs, William Combs and Myla Combs. Other survivors include a special cousin, Betty Derkson, of St. Louis, Missouri; a niece, Sherryll Norton and her children of Fairfield, Iowa and a nephew, Mark A. Garrett and his wife, Elizabeth, and their children of Milton, Iowa.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Bud Garrett.
