Frances âGeorgenaâ Hayes, 92, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Missouri.
Georgena was born on February 15, 1923, north of Canton, Missouri, the daughter of John Herman and Elsa Abney Hudnut Hart.
At the age of three, her family moved to Knox County, Missouri. She had attended school in Palmyra, Newark, Steffenville and finally Oklahoma Rural School.
On March 1, 1941, in Edina, Missouri at the Methodist Parsonage, Georgena married Robert Monroe Hayes.
Georgena and Robert enjoyed the farm life, raising four children, on the farm east of Edina, before retiring and moving to Edina in 1995.
She was a member of the Edina United Methodist Church, Musser Club, Vimus Clan Club âClancy Clubâ, Town and Country Club, Quilt Club, Classy Lassy Red Hat Club and the Thousand Hills Camping Club.
Georgena is survived by four children, Jerry Lee and his wife Faye Hayes of Columbia, Missouri, Larry Dean and his wife Cheryl Hayes of Edina, Missouri, Martha Ann âMartieâ Scott of Hannibal, Missouri and John William and his wife Sherrie Hayes of Edina, Missouri; a sister, Roberta âJuneâ Shepard of Edina, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Doris Binkley Hayes of Ft. Madison, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, Kimberly Ann and Danny Grant, Staci Lee and Brad Henks, Gena Marie and Brett Patton, Joseph Daniel and Laura Hayes, Amie Lynn and
Michael Niemeyer, Kathleen Ellen and Justin Grant, Beverly Ann Hayes, Annette Renee and Cole Mitchell, Kelly William and Lacy Hayes, Michelle Wennette McMullen, Susan Renee and John Paul Begley, and Michael Hayden and Teri Kite; thirty-eight great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elsa Hart; her husband, Robert Hayes on March 10, 2012; a grandson-in-law, Rich Hollinger; a son-in-law, Cecil Scott; three brothers, David Corydell and Irene Hart, Cletus Vetal and Eyloe Hart, and Harold Dale and Dorothy Hart; a sister, Virgie Carmelita and Lloyd Latimer; and three brothers-in-law, Charles Luke, Dean Shepard and James Hayes.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2015, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
Burial will be in the Knox City Cemetery in Knox City, Missouri.
Pastor Sam Smith will officiate and music will be provided by Carol Hayes and Brenton Karhoff.
Casket Bearers will be Tom Hamlin, Charlie Hamlin, Harley Hamlin, Albert Hagerla, Jack Reardon, Donnie Davis, and Pete Bangert. Honorary Bearers will be Georgenaâs Knox County Nursing Home family, residents and staff.
An expression of sympathy in memory of Georgena Hayes may be left to the Knox County Nursing Home, or the Knox City Cemetery. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4
