Obituary

Gerald Dwayne Snelling, 56, of Kirksville, Missouri, formerly of Baring, Missouri, passed away Friday Morning, June 7, 2019, at his residence near Kirksville, Missouri, surrounded by family. Gerald was born on August 3, 1962, in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Gerald Francis and Genave Potter Snelling. He attended the Baring Grade School and graduated from the Knox County High School in Edina, Missouri, in the Class of 1980. He drove over the road, worked at the Baring Gas Station, was a commercial painter in Kansas City, worked construction, worked at MoDOT and the City of Kirksville, Missouri in maintenance before his health forced him into retirement. On June 5, 2015, in Kirksville, Missouri, Gerald married Lisa Renee Bruce and they made their home east of Kirksville. He was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baring, Missouri and enjoyed hunting, restoring International Tractors, collecting guns but most of all he cherished his family. Gerald is survived by his wife, Lisa Snelling; children, Bruce and Kellie Bishop of Las Vegas, Nevada and Hannah and Cory Shultz of Rutledge, Missouri; mother and fathers-in-law, Sharon Lee and Howard Hampton of Garden City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Colton Bishop and Jaylee Shultz; brothers and sisters, Gary and Carolyn Snelling of Baring, Missouri, Joyce and Carl Garr of Greentop, Missouri, Janet and Steve Magruder of Jackson, Missouri, Jean Marie Snelling of Memphis, Missouri, Julie and Tim Frazier of Troy, Missouri, Terry and Christy Snelling of Kirksville, Missouri, Jeff and Stephanie Snelling of Baring, Missouri, Terese Tarpein of Baring, Missouri, and Tracy Snelling of Baring, Missouri; an aunt, Mary Bragg of Kirksville, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Pam King of Cocoa Beach, Florida and Cherish Thomas of Garden City, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, John King of Kanas City, Missouri and Jerimiah Bruce of Johnson County, Kansas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Jenny Snelling; brothers, Stanley Snelling in December of 1987, James Virgil "Jim" Snelling on January 27, 2017, and James Virgil Summers in infancy; a sister, Debra Sue "Debbie" Parsons on September 28, 2016; and a brother-in-law, John Tarpein on January 27, 2019. You may celebrate Gerald's Life with his family at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at the Baring Hall in Baring, Missouri. Interment will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery in Baring, Missouri. An expression of sympathy in memory of Gerald Snelling may be left to the Family's Wishes. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri 63537.
