Obituary

Kenneth Guy Gardine, 92, of Memphis, Missouri, died April 24, 2016, at the Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

He was born April 17, 1924, in Lancaster, Missouri, to Ernest Mikel and Iva Maude Derigo Gardine.

Guy grew up in the Lancaster area and graduated from Lancaster High School. He was inducted into the United States Army on October 4, 1943 and spent his time at Camp Walters, Texas. He served as the clerk of Company B 64 th Infantry Training Battalion. He was honorably discharged from the service on February 12, 1946, holding the rank of corporal.

While on leave from the service, he married Hildred Aeschliman on April 14, 1945, at the Christian Church in Kirksville, Missouri, by Reverend Jolly and to this union four children were born.

Following his discharge from the army, Guy began working as a bookkeeper for MFA Exchange in Lancaster, Missouri, while attending Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. He was later transferred to MFA Grain and Feed Company in St. Joseph, Missouri. He and his wife later became the owners and operators of the Gardine Drug Store in Lancaster, Missouri until 1964 and then moved to Memphis, Missouri, where they owned and operated the Gardine Drug Store. He retired in 1998. In addition to spending time with his family, Guy's favorite hobby was mowing lawns with a riding mower.

Guy was a member of the First Christian Church in Memphis. He served as an elder and was also a Sunday school teacher for the Scotland County Care Center. He was a member of the Glenwood Masonic Lodge #427 where he received his 50 year pin and was also a member of the Eastern Star Kahoka-Chapter #40, the Missouri American Legion and was a charter member of the Scotland County Rotary Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Freda Louise Gardine and Grace Ivalee Fowler; two brothers: LeRoy Gardine and Warren Gardine; his wife, Hildred Gardine; two daughters: Rebecca McMinn and Betsy Gundy and a grandson, Levi Gundy.

Guy is survived by his son, David Gardine, of Gladstone, Missouri and his daughter, Jo Beth Harvey and her husband, Darrell, of Memphis, Missouri. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Ken McMinn and his wife, Jennifer; Melissa Hamm and her husband, Rob; Mikel Harvey and Trisha Harvey, all of Memphis; two step grandchildren: Troy Gundy and Tashia Gundy; five great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Haylee and Jace McMinn, Hilary and Lucas Hamm and many other relatives and close friends.
