Obituary

Ila Jean Garrett 84 of Memphis Missouri passed away Friday August 5 2011 at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis Missouri.She was born April 13 1927 in Scotland County Missouri to Ralph Merriot and Myrtle Nellie Lancaster McIntosh.She was a graduate of Memphis High School class of 45. Ila Jean married William A. Bud Garrett on June 6 1948 and to this union two children were born.She was a member of the First Christian Church in Memphis where she was an active member and enjoyed serving for many years on the Funeral Meal Committee. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She assisted with the Hazel Hill 4-H Club when her children were involved in those activities and was a member of the Education Club. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles sewing and quilting having made many quilts and baby quilts. Jean was a housewife and farm wife and enjoyed their life on the farm. She assisted with the farming and enjoyed driving the tractors and other farm equipment and especially enjoyed the livestock on the farm. She enjoyed working with her flowers cooking and preparing large meals for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed her family and watching her grandchildren in their school and sporting activities.She is survived by her husband William A. Garrett of Memphis a daughter Sherryll Norton of Fairfield Iowa a son Mark A. Garrett and his wife Elizabeth of Milton Iowa four grandchildren: Shawn Norton and his wife Viki of Charlottesville Virginia Courtland Garrett Pedrick Garrett and Treygar Garrett all of Milton Iowa and two great grandchildren: Kadie Norton and Abbie Norton of Charlottesville Virginia. Other survivors include brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Jean was very close to her six brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law and thought of them all as her brothers and sisters.She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Margaret Combs.Visitation will open at noon on Wednesday August 10 2011 at the Memphis Funeral Home with the family present to greet relatives and friends from 6 until 8 P.M. Funeral services will be Thursday August 11 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Brother Jack Sumption officiating. Music will be provided by Joe Fulk vocalist and Ann Luther accompanist. Burial will follow the service in Memphis Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Randy Garrett Steve Garrett Don Garrett Doug Garrett Darren Garrett Kevin Garrett Jim Garrett Scott Shepherd Ron Moore Bryan Gravett and Derek Hugen. To honor Ila Jeans memory a memorial may be made to the Scotland County Nutrition Site or the First Christian Church in Memphis.
