He attended St. Joseph Catholic School, and graduated from the Edina High School in the Class of 1963.
While growing up he helped his dad with trucking and fertilizers at "Patrick White Service". Jack honorably served his country in the United States Army, serving in Korea and Germany.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion in Edina, Missouri, and the America Society of Agronomists. He enjoyed gardening, photography, and travel, but most of all he loved returning to Guatemala to see his daughter.
