John Foster Courtney 29 of St. Louis Missouri and formerly of Memphis Missouri died July 4 2011 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis as a result of injuries received in an accident.He was born December 15 1981 in Hannibal Missouri and became the son of John Monroe and Connie Sue Racey Courtney. Foster grew up in Memphis attending Scotland County R-1 Schools. He was a member of the Scotland County R-1 High School graduating Class of 2000. Foster was the recipient of many citizenship awards during his elementary and high school years. He attended Culver Stockton College at Canton Missouri graduating in 2004 Cum laude having earned a double major in Business Administration and Arts Management. While attending Culver Stockton he was a member of Chapter Delta Upsilon Fraternity and also served as president of that organization. Foster received the Wood Citizenship Award while attending Culver Stockton. He was privileged to complete an internship at the Delta Upsilon International Headquarters and was a member of the Society of Human Resource Management SHRM. Following college Foster moved to St. Louis. He was very active in athletics especially Kick Ball League. This past spring he became a member of the St. Louis Crusaders Rugby Team. Foster first worked at the Millennium Hotel Saint Louis and was presently employed in the Human Resource Department of Corizan Medical Services in St. Louis. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M. of Memphis. He enjoyed traveling and after his fathers death he and his mother enjoyed several trips together.He is survived by his mother Connie R. Courtney of Memphis Missouri three aunts: Sally Eggers of Columbia Missouri Judy Wilcox and her husband John of Shelbina Missouri Lois Courtney of Memphis Missouri and an uncle Steve Racey and his friend Jodie of Lancaster Missouri. Also surviving are cousins: Stephanie Shalley and her husband Dave Sonya See and her husband Patrick Stacie Whitaker and her husband James all of Memphis Missouri Jeff Racey and Jim Racey and his wife Felicia both of Little Rock Arkansas John Wilcox and his wife JoAnn Joe Wilcox and his wife Ali and Jacob Wilcox and his wife Rena all of Shelbina Missouri and Brian Eggers of Austin Texas many second cousins and many friends.Foster was preceded in death by his father John Courtney his grandparents: Paul and Peggy Racey and Gerald and Madlyn Courtney an uncle Steve Courtney and two cousins: Christopher Courtney and Scott Courtney. Visitation will open at 9:00 AM Friday at the Memphis Funeral Home with family present from 5 to 8 PM. A Masonic Service will be conducted by the Memphis Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M. at 8:00 PM.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Presbyterian Church in Memphis with Rev. Dana Slavin and Rev. Jim Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Memphis Cemetery.In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Courtney Memorial Scholarship Culver Stockton College Missouri Transplant Services or the Donors Choice.
