Obituary

unior Childress, 95, of Memphis, Missouri, died Saturday, December, 28, 2013, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis. He was born June 11, 1918, in Scotland County, Missouri, to Warren Priest and Nellie Claire Waid Childress. Junior attended Walnut Grove School in Scotland County. He entered the United States Army on July 11, 1941 and was discharged September 12, 1945, having been a Purple Heart recipient. He married Bina Lou Jackson on August 13, 1942, at Queen City, Missouri and to this union two children were born. Junior worked at Shaw's Seed Store in Greentop Missouri, before he began a farming operation in Scotland County. He was a bus driver for the Scotland County Schools for many years, having earned the respect of many of the students, some of whom currently remained in contact with him. He considered "work" as a hobby and especially enjoyed doing yard work . Junior also enjoyed eating out. He was a member of the Wallace W. Gillespie V.F. W. Post #4958 and the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by a son, Jack Childress and his wife, Judy, of Downing, Missouri; a daughter, Sue Myers and her husband, Mike; a grandson, Chris Childress and his wife, Billie Jo and a granddaughter, Kelle Gunnell and her husband, Bill, all of Memphis. Also surviving are four great grandchildren: Kala, Kara and Kyle Childress and Shane Gunnell; four step-grandchildren: Melissa Craighead of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; Beverly Young of Overland Park, Kansas; Randy Henry of Leavenworth, Kansas; Doug Myers of Moody, Texas; a sister, Jewel Paige of Oak Lawn, Illinois; nieces, nephews and his dog, T.J. Junior was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on December 22, 2010, a son-in-law, Tom Huggins, two brothers: Wilford Childress, Bill Childress and a sister, Mary Nell Kay.
