Madlyn Monroe Courtney 92 of Memphis Missouri died April 28 2010 at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis Missouri.She was born November 4 1917 the daughter of Ray and Tressie A. Stevens Monroe.On January 9 1936 she was united in marriage to John Gerald Courtney. They shared fifty-seven years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1993. To this marriage two sons were born: John Courtney and Steve Courtney.Madlyn had many duties to church and home. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Memphis a member of the Eastern Star where she served as a Past Worthy Matron a member of the Rebekah Lodge where she served as a past Nobel Grand and a member of the White Shrines of Jerusalem. She was also very active in the Missouri Bottlers Association an avid Bridge player and a member of the Memphis Red Hats.She enjoyed gardening canning knitting and was an exceptional seamstress. She was a woman of many hats but the one she wore most often and most proudly was the one of a grandmother. She loved and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren always supporting them in any and all of their endeavors.She was preceded in death by her parents her husband her two sons two grandchildren: Christopher Courtney and Scott Courtney three sisters and three brothers-in-law: Elise Doc North Maxine Jack Maddox and Doris Kenny Nye.She is survived by two daughters-in-law: Connie Courtney and Lois Courtney four grandchildren: Stephanie Shalley and her husband Dave Sonya See and her husband Patrick Stacie Whitaker and her husband James and J. Foster Courtney. Also surviving are nine great grandchildren: Colby Brown Jenna Shalley Marcus Shalley Ian See Stevi See Zane See Avery Whitaker Anthony Whitaker Allayna Whitaker and several nieces nephews great nieces and great nephews.A visitation where family will be present to greet relatives and friends will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Memphis on Friday April 30 2010 from 6 until 8 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday May 1 2010 at 10:30 A.M. with the Reverend Michael McCormack officiating. Music will be provided by Connie Courtney organist and Anna Lynn Kirkpatrick vocalist. Music selections include My Task and Be Not Dismayed.Burial will follow the funeral service in the Memphis Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Marcus Shalley J.
