Marjorie Therese Koellner, 83, of rural Milton, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 5, 2024 at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri, surrounded by family.
She was born on August 2, 1940 in Cantril, Iowa to Walter and Suzanne Pierre Birchmier.
On June 29,1968 Marjorie married Richard Norbert Koellner at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Bloomfield, Iowa and to this union three sons were born.
Marjorie went to school at Milton High School in Milton, Iowa and graduated in the Class of 1958. She attended college at Iowa State University and earned a Bachelor's Degree and a Masters in Counseling and Mathematics. She taught at Wapello and Fox Valley for more than thirty years and retired in 2000. She served as a Highschool Math Teacher and Guidance Counselor, and a school board member. Marjorie attended St. John's Catholic Church in Memphis, Missouri.
She enjoyed working their family farm near Milton, Iowa as a farm wife, teaching students and attending Happy Hour Card Club. Above all she loved to spend time with her kids and grandkids.
Marjorie is survived by three sons: Benjamin Koellner and his wife, Meghan of Milton, Iowa; Timothy Koellner and Jacky Martin, of Milton, Iowa; James Koellner and his wife, Kimberly, of Eddyville, Iowa; ten grandchildren: Jason Rauch and his wife, Kelly, of Ashby, Minnesota; Trevor Koellner and his wife Maggie of Milton, Iowa; Hannah Koellner and Ty Jager of Eddyville, Iowa; Alex Koellner of Milton, Iowa; Tagen Koellner of Milton, Iowa; Abby Koellner of Milton, Iowa; Andrew Koellner of Milton, Iowa; Tison Koellner, of Milton, Iowa; Teran Koellner of Milton, Iowa; Tavin Fleming of Milton, Iowa; one step grandchild; Natalie Martin of Milton, Iowa; two great grandchildren; Klara and Kelson Rauch of Ashby, Minnesota; one brother, Ernest Birchmier of Cantril, Iowa; one sister in law; Carol Ann Birchmier of Bloomfield, Iowa; along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Koellner on December 30, 2008; two brothers, Richard Birchmier and his wife Marti; Dennis Birchmier; two sisters, Helen Birchmier; and Jeanette Jones and her husband Jim and sister-in-law, Jean Birchmier.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 9, 2024, at St. John's Catholic Church in Memphis, Missouri.
Visitation will be after 9:00 a.m. with the family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 8, 2024 at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, Missouri. A Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
Father Rob Fields will officiate.
Interment will be at the South Prairie Cemetery in rural Van Buren County, Iowa.
An expression of sympathy in memory of Marjorie Koellner may be left to the Scotland County Memorial Hospital for Comfort Care or St. John's Catholic Church. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Memphis Funeral Home 378 S. Market Street, Memphis, Missouri 63555.
