Obituary

Mauretta Mildred Smith 95 of Memphis Missouri died Thursday May 28 2009 at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis Missouri. She was born at her grandparents home in Memphis Missouri on August 4 1913 to Charles Dewitt and Mabel Martha McWilliams Miller. Mauretta attended the White Country School. She met her husband Roy Lee Smith in high school and was later united in marriage to him in Kansas City Missouri on September 6 1934. To this union two children Charles Lee and Reta Kay were born.Mauretta was a homemaker and assisted with feeding livestock on their farm. She was a member of Memphis First Christian Church and active in various activities of the church. She taught Sunday school for many years was a member of the Loyal Womens Group and was a Deaconess. She enjoyed cooking and will be remembered for the many lamb cakes she made for children in Memphis. She also enjoyed needlework watching her children and grandchildren playing basketball and most importantly her family.Survivors include her husband of seventy-four years Roy Lee Smith of Memphis Missouri a son Charles Lee Smith and his wife Donna of Wright City Missouri two grandchildren: Nancy Jayne Smith of Columbia Missouri and David Roy Smith and wife Missy of Arbela Missouri and their mother Barbara Smith of Memphis Missouri. Also surviving are three great-grand children: Bryce David Smith Austin Lee Dale Smith and Carlee Dawn Smith all of Arbela Missouri a sister Lenna Mae Noel of St. Louis Missouri and a niece Jill Noel-Machamer of St. Louis Missouri.She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter Reta Kay Smith on July 28 1957. Visitation will open at 9AM on Monday June 1 2009 at the Memphis Funeral Home with the family present from 10AM until 12 noon. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Brother Jack Sumption officiating. Ann Luther accompanist will accompany vocalists Elaine Forrerster Angela Westhoff and Alisa Kigar.Burial will follow in the Memphis Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Lee Roy Garrison Kenny Monroe Joel Kapfer Randy Harrison Terry Fincher and Warren Miller.Honorary bearers will be Ronnie Baker Richard Webber Leon Orton Bob Carney Chris Montgomery and Mike Aylward and Lloyd Erickson.Memorials may be made to the Memphis First Christian Church and may be left at or mailed to Memphis Funeral Home. 378 South Market Street Memphis Missouri 63555.
