Michael J. "Bud" Myers, 90, of Memphis, Missouri passed away Monday, March 10, 2025 at his residence surrounded by family.
He was born on August 4, 1934, in Edinburg, Missouri the son of Michael Benjamin and Ida Barbara Witte Myers. He attended Edinburg rural school before graduating from the Memphis High School in the Class of 1951.
At the age of 16 he attended University of Missouri Columbia where he received a Bachelor's in Agriculture/Marketing, he continued his education at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a year later received his Master's in School Administration. Mike then attended Columbia University in New York City, New York and earned his Doctorate in Education.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army before beginning his career of teaching. He worked at various teaching jobs beginning in Alton, Illinois before transitioning to Park Ridge, Illinois where he was school administrator and Superintendent and retired in 1993. At which time he returned to Memphis, Missouri and was Superintendent of the Wyaconda school until his retirement.
Mike raised cows with his brothers, Charlie and Max, South and West of Memphis. He enjoyed maintaining the farm, his yard and being outdoors.
He was a member of the Rotary International, serving as club Treasurer, Vice-President and President for many years. He enjoyed traveling, reading books and spending winters in someplace warm including Arizona, Texas, and California.
On August 4, 1957 he married Callie Lee Hicks and she preceded him in death on March 13, 1998.
On January 8, 2000, Mike married Sue Ann Childress at the home of Jerry and Terri Watson in Memphis, Missouri.
Mike is survived by his wife, Sue Myers of Memphis, Missouri; a son; Matthew Douglas and Katlyn Myers of Tuttle, Oklahoma; one step granddaughter, Carter Urban of Tuttle, Oklahoma; two sisters, Barbara and Jim Callahan of Godfrey, Illinois, and Beverly Cuevas of Billingham, Washington; one brother-in-law, Jack Childress of Downing, Missouri; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Ida Myers; his wife, Callie Myers; a son, Michael Richard "Dick" Myers; two brothers and their wives, Max and Mary Lou Myers and Charlie and Judy Myers.
Funeral Services will be Friday, March 14, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Memphis Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday, March 14, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. till 1:00 p.m. at the Memphis Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Edinburg Cemetery, south of Memphis, Missouri.
An expression of sympathy in memory of Mike Myers may be left to the Edinburg Cemetery. A memorial may be left at or mail to the Memphis Funeral Home 378 South Market Street Memphis, Missouri 63555.
