Mitch
Gundy
Feb 3, 1962 — Dec 11, 2023
Ted Mitchell "Mitch" Gundy, 61, of Memphis, Missouri passed away Monday, December 11, 2023 at his home. He was born February 3. 1962 in Bloomfield, Iowa, the son of Harvey Edmund "Ted" and Martha Ellen (Fetters) Gundy. He attended Scotland County R-1 High School, graduating in the class of 1980. Together with Rhonda Morton, they had two children, Cody and Delaney.
Mitch was a welder/fabricator at Racemart for several years, building race cars and selling parts at races around the area. He later worked in refrigeration as a pipefitter, sometimes traveling to different states and sending back postcards to his kids while he was gone. Mitch loved spending time outdoors whether it was deer, arrowhead, or mushroom hunting, trapping, fishing on warm nights (usually while most people were sleeping), riding his motorcycle, or racing go-karts. He also had great interest in history and native american artifacts, was the best story teller, and always had something to fix or a project to work on because he saw potential in things most people would have considered junk. Those who knew him knew Mitch always had a prank or funny comment in his back pocket ready to make you laugh, but above all else his favorite thing was being Papa Mitch, spending time with his granddaughters and giving them Georges ($1 bills).
Left to cherish Mitch's memory are his son, Cody R. (Betsey) Gundy along with their two daughters Raylee and Emree of Memphis, Missouri; a daughter, Delaney (Matt Williams and daughter Addison) Gundy of Kirksville, Missouri; a sister, Maryann and Kenny Eager; brothers, Mike Gundy, Kevin and Julie Gundy; a sister Michele and Randy Garnett; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, cousins, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Duke and Vernal Gundy; his parents, Ted and Ellen Gundy; a sister, Rita Jarvis; and a nephew, Luke Gundy.
Visitation will be Friday, December 15, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, Missouri.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2023, at Memphis Cemetery in Memphis, Missouri. Pastor Sonny Smyser will officiate.
Casket bearers will be Brandon Garnett, Michael Garnett, Gavin Hauk, Kyle Shelley, Caleb Kittle, and Austin Salter. Honorary casket bearers are Mark Bradley, Darrell Howard, Maynard Johnston, Steve Schaefer, Joe Meyers, Kirby Goosey, Jim Wheeler, and Sydney Salter.
An expression of sympathy in memory of Mitch Gundy may be left to the Family's Wishes. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Memphis Funeral Home 378 South Market Street Memphis, Missouri 63555.
