Obituary

Norman Dean Goucher, 75, of Memphis, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 9, 2026, at Scotland County Hospital. He was born July 2, 1950, in Kirksville, Missouri, to Marvin "Pat" and Hazel Johnson Goucher.

Norman grew up in the Edina, Missouri area and was a graduate of Knox County High School, Class of 1968, where he was a member of the band and discovered a love of drumming that stayed with him throughout his life. Before beginning his career on the road, he worked for Marble's Ready Mix and the City of Memphis Water Treatment Plant. He spent the majority of his career as an over-the-road truck driver with Foodliner, earning multiple safety awards and the CB handle "Hummingbird" among his fellow drivers.

On May 27, 1984, he married the love of his life, Marsha Burns Peterson, and became bonus dad to Kristi and Kyle Peterson. She was his anchor, and he was her storm. Marsha preceded him in death nearly fourteen years ago, and today, they are reunited.

Norman was most in his element with a spatula in his hand and a crowd in the backyard. He could be counted on for the barbecues, the birthday parties, and the family gatherings - and he made those moments memorable. He showed up in the ways that were his own. He loved deer hunting, time at the cabin with lifelong friends, Cardinals baseball, and summers at Lake Thunderhead on the pontoon or pulling generations of kids behind the boat on skis and floaties - first Kristi and Kyle and all their friends, and years later his grandkids - and teaching anyone who'd listen how to fish. In quieter moments, you'd find him strumming his guitar or strolling through the house singing "Old Time Rock and Roll." Wherever he went - the VFW, the grocery store, the old pharmacy counter - he always had a story, and if you had the time to listen, you were in for something good.

One of his simple pleasures was walking into a place and hearing someone call out "Norm." He liked being known - and the truth is, once you knew Norman, you didn't forget him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marsha Goucher; his son, Kyle Peterson; his parents, Marvin "Pat" and Hazel Johnson Goucher; and his brothers, Terry Goucher and Melvin Paris.

He is survived by his daughter, Kristi Peterson of Ashland, Missouri; grandchildren Christian and Keelee Lalley of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Gabe and Grace Peterson of Omaha, Nebraska, Sascha Peterson of California, Missouri, Reygan Whitt of Columbia, Missouri, and Kyle, Jadyn, and Kynzli Peterson of Ashland, Missouri; great-grandson Kaysen Lalley of Elkhorn, Nebraska; brothers Tim and Marlene "Tuffy" Goucher of Novinger, Missouri, Ronnie and Linda Douglas of Kirksville, Missouri, and Kenny and Mitzie Douglas of Des Moines, and Darell Goucher of Kirksville, Missouri, Iowa; sister-in-laws Charlotte Paris and Marsha Goucher; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, Missouri, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m.
