Okie Daniel Boyer, 94, of Memphis, Missouri, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis.

He was born June 25, 1922, at Arbela, Missouri, to Okie Robert and Joy Belle (Oppy) Boyer.

He attended high school in Granger, Missouri, graduating with the class of 1940. Following high school, Okie farmed for several years and then enlisted in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and began his tour of active duty in October of 1942, receiving his honorable discharge in November of 1945. While in the service, he was awarded three bronze stars for his participation in the Luzon, New Guinea and Leyte Campaigns. His military occupation and specialty was that of a cook.

Okie was married to Deloris Jean Christian on September 13, 1946, at their home in Arbela, Missouri, by Reverend Mac Dawkins and to this union two daughters were born.

Okie was a farmer in the Arbela area, doing row crops and raising livestock. He also had a passion for gardening; enjoyed hunting deer and turkey; fishing and continued his cooking skills.

He was a member of the Wallace W. Gillespie V. F. W. Memorial Post #4958 and became a member of the Arbela Baptist Church at the age of thirteen.

Left to honor Okie's memory is his daughters: Bonnie J. Young and her husband, Ronnie and Lela Ann Green and her husband, Rick, all of Memphis; three grandchildren: Debbie Blessing and her husband, Jarrod, of Memphis; Brandi Linn Jerome and her husband, Stephen, of Greentop, Missouri and Richard "Rich" Green and his wife, Chrissy, of Memphis; ten great grandchildren: Jacob Blessing, Aaron Blessing, Meghann Momphard, Tyler Young, Brenna Young, Matthew Jerome, Isabelle Jerome, Charlie Green, Hannah Green, Zachery Green and nieces and nephews.

Okie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Deloris, of sixty-two years; a grandson, Robert Young; a twin brother, Orville and a sister-in-law, Barbara Boyer.
