Obituary

Robert P Gordon, who lived to the incredible age of 104, peacefully departed this world on Thursday, August 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. To his family, he was simply "Grampa," who could always be counted on for a good story and a smile.

Born on December 23, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois, Robert was the beloved son of Robert D. and Virginia Patteson Gordon.

He attended Morgan Park High School and continued his education at Woodrow Wilson Junior College, both in Chicago, Illinois. Robert honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He enlisted in 1943 in Chicago, Illinois and was discharged in 1946 at Camp Grant in Rockford, Illinois, as a sergeant.

Robert was united in marriage to Edith Zierden on December 31, 1977. They lived in Clarendon Hills, Illinois, Saugatuck, Michigan in 1978, Venture Out, Mesa, Arizona in 1982 and later relocated to Huntley, Illinois to be closer to family. Robert and Edith enjoyed dancing and traveling.  They did so for many years.  Robert held leadership roles in several community organizations including President Clarendon Hills and Saugatuck Lions Club and President Venture Out Condominium Board. He loved leading the pool exercise classes at Venture Out and spoke often of his amazing Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the war memorials.

Professionally, Robert worked as an Electrical Contractor for 30 years in Chicago, specializing in industrial and commercial design builds.  In 1978 through 1998 he was an Electrical Engineer and Cost Analyst Consultant for a national contractor. Robert was the President of the Electrical Estimators Association, member of the National Electrical Contractors Association and Western Society of Engineers.

Robert leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories for his granddaughters Amanda Becker and her husband Tom, and Tracy Szczepanski and her husband Dean, two great grandchildren: Tim Becker and Christine Becker.  He will also be fondly remembered by family and friends. We extend our sincere gratitude to Chedric (Butch) Adasa for the excellent care and compassion provided to Bob.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edith Gordon, daughter Dottie Guarine, son Robert Zierden, in-laws; Larry and Lucile Winkelman, Walt and Nellie Lowder, Earl and Mary Belle Crawford, William "Frank" Crawford, and Sam and Ivalee Crawford, as well niece Connie Crawford.

Though he may be gone, his stories, lessons, and love will live on forever in our hearts.
