Sharon K. Smith, 80, of Bloomfield, Iowa, passed away January 2, 2017, at the home of her daughter, in Olds, Iowa.

She was born May 6, 1936, at Fairfield, Iowa, to Raymond Milton and Fern Fay (Godwin) Coop.

Sharon grew up in the Fairfield area and graduated from Fairfield High School with the class of 1954. She attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Ottumwa, Iowa, receiving her R.N. Diploma in 1970.

She married Richard Duane Smith on May 27, 1956, at the Antioch Church in Jefferson County, Iowa and to this union four children were born.

Sharon worked as a nurse at the Gilfillan Clinic and the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa, from 1957 until 1980 and then worked at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center from 1980 until her retirement in 1998.

She was affiliated with the Bloomfield Christian Church and the Antioch Church in rural Jefferson County, Iowa.

Sharon enjoyed playing cards, antiquing, and baking. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and nurse, having touched the lives of many people.

Left to honor her memory are her children: Rick Smith of Centerville, Iowa; Kent Smith and his fiancé, Linda Morrison, of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Susan Johnson and her husband, Todd, of Olds, Iowa; Lafe Smith and his wife, Melissa, of Owatonna, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: Caden Smith, Ramsey Smith, Emily Johnson, Leah Johnson, Liam Smith, Maren Smith and Isley Smith. Other survivors include a brother, Bruce Coop and his wife, Betty, of Fairfield, Iowa; three sisters, Josephine Chambers, Packwood, Iowa; Colee Hospers of Iowa City, Iowa and Rosie Hendricks of Fairfield, Iowa; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, in 2010 and two brothers: Bernard Coop and Roger Coop.
