Obituary

Vera Ruth Hamilton 85 of Arbela Missouri passed away Wednesday August 3 2011 in the Emergency Room at Scotland County Hospital in Memphis Missouri.She was born July 26 1926 at Fairfield Iowa to Otto Orville and Blanche Elizabeth Wright Day. She was a graduate of Granger High School in Granger Missouri class of 1944. Following graduation she worked at the J.C. Penny store in Keokuk Iowa.Vera married Howard Stanley Hamilton April 23 1949 at the Methodist Parsonage in Keokuk Iowa and to this union three children were born.She was a member of the Arbela United Methodist Church and served as secretary for the Ladies Aide Group for many years. She was a member of the Educational Club and a card party club. Vera provided numerous hours of volunteer time for 4-H clubs when her children were involved in those activities. She enjoyed sewing was an avid reader and enjoyed poetry. She received her greatest enjoyment when spending time with family and friends.She is survived by her husband Howard of Arbela a daughter Debra Sue Goff and her husband Scott of Memphis Missouri two sons: Curtis Guy Hamilton and his wife Karen of Crystal Lake Illinois Max Stanley Hamilton of Memphis four grandchildren: Abby Goff Stacie Goff Katie Hamilton and Nick Hamilton. Other survivors include a sister Leona Oliver of Salem Oregon five brothers: Donald Day and his wife Juanita of West Point Iowa Rodney Day and his wife Doris of Gorin Missouri Earl Day and his wife Carol of Abingdon Illinois Bert Day of Branson Missouri Richard Day and Karen Van Cleve of Salem Oregon a sister-in-law Corrine Day of Altoona Iowa a brother-in-law Johnny Johnson of Hugo Oklahoma several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.She was preceded in death by her parents two sisters: Opal Marie Day and Esther Johnson and a brother Robert Day Visitation will open at noon on Friday August 5 2011 at the Memphis Funeral Home with the family present to greet relatives and friends from 6 until 7:30 P.M. Funeral services will be Saturday August 6th at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Homer Poor officiating. Music will be provided by Elaine Forrester vocalist and Angela Westhoff accompanist. Burial will follow the service in Lawn Ridge Cemetery in rural Scotland County. Casket bearers will be Glen Cowell Brian Consbrock. Dennis Day Tom Day Steve Kirkpatrick and Arlo Trueblood.To honor Veras memory a memorial may be made to the Arbela United Methodist Church or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
