Vernon Harold Tippett, 84, of Quincy, Illinois formerly of Memphis, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the High Point Residence in Quincy, Illinois.
Vernon was born on April 25, 1941, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Harold William and Helen Maurine Hicks Tippett.
In 1957 he was an Eagle Scout and attended the National Boy Scouts Jamboree in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
He graduated from the Memphis High School in Memphis, Missouri, in the Class of 1959 and continued his education at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri and graduated from the Tulsa University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1965 with a degree in Petroleum Marketing.
On August 19, 1962, at the Methodist Church in Memphis, Missouri, Vernon married Janice Kay Watson and to this union two children were born.
He worked in the family business of Tippett Oil Company that was established in 1935 by his father. He owned and operated the Tippett Truck Stop in Taylor, Missouri and sold it in 2008. After retirement, he thoroughly enjoyed truck driving and drove for Sharkey Transportation part time.
Vernon was a member of the Memphis United Methodist Church, Memphis Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M. receiving his 50 year pin in 2018, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Moila Shriners, and was past president of the Missouri Petroleum Marketers Association in 1988.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Janice Tippett of Venice, Florida; a son, Michael Harold Tippett of San Diego, California; a daughter, Julia Lynn and Scott Lewis of Ursa, Illinois; two grandchildren, Nicole and Spencer Allen, and Lauren and Bryan Bickett; three great grandchildren, Adalyn Allen, Avery Allen and Caroline Bickett; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Joan Gerth, Bill and Donna Shoop, and Debbie and Randy Sharp; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Special recognition for his special caregiver, Marie McFarlane C.N.A. She was an angel for him and loved him like family, along with the entire staff of High Point Residence for going above and beyond expectations. It was truly his home for the last 5 years.
A Celebration of Vernon's Life will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, Missouri.
A Masonic Service by Memphis Masonic Lodge #16 will also be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the Funeral Home in Memphis.
Interment will be in the Memphis Cemetery in Memphis, Missouri.
An expression of sympathy in memory of Vernon Tippett may be left to the Alzheimer's Association or the Memphis United Methodist Church. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Memphis Funeral Home 378 S. Market Street, Memphis, Missouri 63555.
